Everyone wants to know how to get a medical marijuana card in Maryland, and we are here to help you learn everything that’s needed to become a patient in Maryland. First things first, the state had big plans to allow out of state patients to gain access to their program. However, we haven’t seen anyone from out of state successfully be approved and the state has since pushed back that opportunity for out of state patients. Thus, the Maryland medical marijuana program is only accepting in-state patients at this time.
The medical marijuana program in Maryland was approved by lawmakers in 2013. The program recently became operational with some dispensaries opening in September of 2017. Multiple growers have received their final licenses to grow as well. The MMP program allows people to become legal medical marijuana patients in the state and gain access to cannabis dispensaries all throughout the state.
To qualify for medical marijuana you have to be 18 years of age and also have one of the qualifying conditions. Patients can be approved for a medical marijuana card in Maryland for a wide range of conditions. The most common diagnosis fall into the general categories: Chronic pain, Anxiety, Depression, Insomnia, Migraines, Allergies, Severe, debilitating, or life-threatening medical conditions, HIV/AIDS, Glaucoma, Multiple Sclerosis, Cancer, or any other condition, as determined by rule-making that is, chronic or long-lasting. If a patient is under 18, they must register with a caregiver who is over 18. That caregiver can obtain medical marijuana from a dispensary for the patient.
On the Maryland commission’s website, you need to register with the state of Maryland by providing your name, address, date of birth, and uploading an image of a valid state government ID. After this, a patient will visit a Veriheal doctor who is registered with the Commission to obtain their “written certification.”
